Background

The Center for Empowerment Ethiopia (CEE) is a non-profit organization legally registered in Ethiopia under the Civil Societies Proclamation No. 1113/2019, with a registry number 6213 issued by the Authority for Civil Society Organizations.

CEE brings a wealth of expertise and proven experience in implementing programs focused on human rights advocacy, women’s empowerment, democracy building, and civic education, with a particular emphasis on democratic election awareness and capacity building. Over the years, CEE has established itself as a key player in fostering social change and empowering communities across Ethiopia.

The organization’s impactful work is supported by prominent donors, including:

  • National Endowment for Democracy (NED)
  • Women Win
  • National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE)
  • Civil Society Support Program Two (CSSP2) under the British Council

With the support of these partners, CEE has successfully delivered numerous projects targeting democracy promotion, human rights protection, and peacebuilding, particularly in the Southwestern Region of Ethiopia and other southern regions.

CEE plays a pivotal role in advancing sustainable peace and human rights by:

  • Developing and monitoring human rights situations to ensure accountability and compliance.
  • Implementing strategies that promote peace, security, and stability.
  • Monitoring the implementation of agreements related to human rights and conflict resolution.
  • Providing evidence-based recommendations and actionable information to policymakers, human rights organizations, and advocacy groups.
